The magic of the country never let him go, and when he inherited a small fortune in the same year, he spontaneously decided to buy a farm in Kenya. He spent a great deal of time in Africa. His life stages: British aristocrat, big-game hunter, bush pilot, safari guide and lover of the writer Karen Blixen.
When the autobiographical book was made into a film in 1985, Robert Brandts was in Africa at the same time as the cinema release. He, too, was fascinated by the African continent and the free-spirited attitude to life embodied by Denys Finch Hatton. A few years later, Robert Brandts decided to launch a fashion line for men. Influences from South Africa were to be felt. Robert Brandts’ company was given the name Fynch-Hatton, and the fashion was intended to be honest and relaxed. The young entrepreneur succeeded in this - today, the Fynch-Hatton brand is characterized by high quality and timeless designs. At the beginning, it was mainly sweaters that Robert Brandts brought to market together with a small team. His concept of focusing on sustainable fashion proved successful, the company grew and the range continued to expand. Incidentally, the logo with the tree goes back to the experience the company founder had in Africa. The umbrella thorn is a typical tree in the South African steppe.
